Choosing the right map print size
A5, A4, A3 or A2? A practical guide to choosing a map print that feels at home on your wall, shelf or gallery display.

A map print starts with a place, but its size changes how that place sits in your home. A small print can become a personal detail on a shelf; a larger one can give a favourite town or city a clear presence above a desk.
The right choice depends on the space around it, the frame you plan to use and how you want to look at the map.
Start with the space, rather than the biggest size
Before choosing a print, look at the wall or surface where it will live. Notice nearby furniture, doorways and other pictures. A map above a narrow bedside table needs a different amount of breathing room from a print on an open living-room wall.
This simple test is especially useful when buying online. A photograph can suggest a room setting, but it cannot tell you how a particular print will feel beside your own furniture. Measure the available space before ordering, and remember that a frame adds to the finished outer dimensions.
The four Minimal Maps print sizes

| Size | Dimensions | A starting point |
|---|---|---|
| A5 | 14.8 × 21 cm | A shelf or a small personal corner |
| A4 | 21 × 29.7 cm | A desk, hallway or smaller wall |
| A3 | 29.7 × 42 cm | A gallery wall or a more prominent display |
| A2 | 42 × 59.4 cm | A larger wall with room around the print |
These are suggestions, rather than rules. An A5 print can look beautiful within a larger arrangement, while an A2 print may suit a quiet wall on its own.
Choose the size that supports the way you use the room.
Plan the frame and mount together
Minimal Maps prints are supplied unframed. Frames and styling accessories shown in our photographs are examples of how a print can be displayed, and are not included. When buying a frame, check the size of the print it accepts rather than relying on its outer dimensions.
If you want a mount, make sure the frame and mount are intended to hold your chosen print size.
For the dimensions in one place, see our print size guide. It is worth choosing your framing arrangement before deciding where to hang the finished print.
Give the place a little breathing room
If you are arranging several maps, keep a consistent gap between the frames and lay out the arrangement before hanging it. Matching sizes can create a calm rhythm; a mix of sizes can work when the whole display is considered together.
Start with the place that matters most, then choose other prints that belong to the same story.
